Better communication, motivated people

Better communication, motivated people

Enhance communication for motivated and vital employees in the workplace. Staff shortages in the workplace mean today's workers may experience high workloads, with stress and burnout being a real risk. As a (team) leader, you face significant challenges as a result. It's necessary to adopt a flexible attitude and truly understand your own employees. Listen, talk, and better understand what they value, what energizes them, and what their ideas are. However, not everyone finds it easy to express themselves. Therefore, it's useful to find a more neutral, common language. Working with core motivations helps you with that. We'll explain how that works in this blog.

Miscommunication & Workplace Stress

What we often observe among employees in operational roles is that they are perfectly content with their day-to-day tasks, but tensions and stress arise when team communication feels unpleasant. This can be caused, for example, by a direct and demanding communication style from team leaders or among colleagues. As a result, employees may feel undervalued, unseen, or unheard. The challenge, however, is that everyone communicates in their own way, based on their largely unconscious perceptions. The first step to address this is for you, as a (team) leader, to become aware of it.Step 1. Everyone has a different perceptionEvery individual is unique and exhibits different behaviors in work situations. How we perceive our environment and subsequently interact with others is shaped by our own values and beliefs: this is our personal perception. Others may experience the same situations entirely differently and thus react in a different manner. So, what kind of behavior do you observe from your perspective? Only a fraction of our communication is about WHAT we say. Crucially, it's HOW we say things (body language and intonation). It's easy to see how miscommunication and misunderstanding can arise. By gaining insight into the perceptions and drivers that influence human behavior, we create an opportunity to improve communication and find common ground. This is essential, because when we know how to approach others in a way they understand and accept, we hold the key to effective communication and mutual understanding. Profile Dynamics' seven value systems can assist you with this. Do you recognize your own drivers and those of others?Step 2. Delving into driversThe American psychology lecturer Dr. Clare W. Graves distinguished seven intuitively recognizable value systems that shape people's thoughts and actions. We have assigned a color to each of these drivers. These drivers develop in a spiral, oscillating between individual and more environment-oriented focuses. While everyone possesses these drivers, individuals develop a preference for specific ones, forming a unique driver profile. Read about that here more about. By learning to recognize people's drivers, you'll better understand their needs and how to approach them. This helps improve interpersonal communication. An example.

Individuals with a preference for the red driver are direct in their communication; they make decisions, speak their minds, and don't shy away from confrontation. They value respect and expect strong leadership with assertive communication. An employee with a strong preference for this driver will appreciate a direct and clear communication style. However, someone with a strong preference for the green driver will view this differently. This person is people-oriented and values harmony. For example, this employee needs you to show interest and ask how they are doing.Step 3. Recognizing drivers and improving communicationNow that you're ready to take the next step, it's important to gain a better understanding of the seven drivers and their specific communication needs. To assist you with this, we've developed a practical step-by-step plan. Download it here and read about the specific communication needs for each driver.
