From good work to growth: what happens in practice for a consultant?

Many consultants build their practice step by step. Initial assignments, successful projects, returning clients. And somewhere along the way, a new question arises: how do I grow this? Not by working harder, but by consciously choosing where to focus your efforts. In conversations with consultants, we often see this coalesce into three key shifts:
1. From Doing to Positioning
Many consultants excel at what they do.
They understand the situation, facilitate discussions, and make an impact.
But as soon as an organization is already using a different method, the conversation changes.
No longer: can you help us?
But: where do you add value?
That's precisely where the next step is.
Not by explaining more, but by positioning yourself more clearly:
- when is your approach relevant?
- what do you add that isn't already there?
- and when is it not?
That calls for choices and appropriate language.
2. From One-off Projects to Ongoing Value
A successful project is often the start of something bigger.
But that doesn't happen automatically.
The question is:
- how do you connect individual projects to the team or organizational level?
- how do you ensure your work has a lasting impact?
Consultants who grow in this area no longer build isolated interventions, but a coherent strategy. And that's precisely where opportunities for continuity arise.
3. From working alone to joining forces
Many consultants work independently, but not in isolation.
There is a growing need for:
- sparring
- exchange
- collaborating on larger issues
Not to become dependent, but to be in a stronger position.
We are seeing this more and more often:
consultants who connect, strengthen each other.
What does this mean in practice?
These trends are not new.
But they are becoming more visible.
And they require more than just in-depth content:
- making sharper choices
- more conscious positioning
- and actively building your practice
We do this not only in training courses or programs, but also, and crucially, within the network.
Practical
On 1 October we are organizing the annual consultants' meeting.
A moment to exchange experiences, connect with each other, and look ahead.
Only certified Profile Dynamics consultants will receive the invitation by email.
Finally
A consultant's practice is never static.
New questions, new opportunities, and sometimes new directions emerge.
The question is not only what you do, but also how you continue to develop.
Are you curious what this means for you?
Schedule an introductory meeting, and we can discuss together how this can work for you.
